This is a serious down parka, built for the coldest of winters. It's as warm as it looks — big and lofty with a lot of volume. But it's also lightweight, packable and easy to move around in. A 100% recycled Japanese ripstop fabric, 850 fill power ExpeDRY down, and details developed for alpine use. There are very few parkas built to this level. This is one of them.

Eleven years after its first release, the third generation of our flagship down parka. Built for real use and serious warmth, tested in northern Scandinavia, and refined using feedback from owners. More down, and better down. A fit that goes over all your layers. Lighter, warmer, more durable and more packable. We only redesign when there are real improvements to be made, and this is no exception.

Warm when it's really cold — 850 fill power ExpeDRY down will keep you warm even in damp conditions. And there's a lot of it, 300 g down fill in size L.
Designed to wear on top — Large, roomy and lofty, this parka goes over all other layers. Order your normal size. If you want a tighter fit over fewer layers, consider sizing down.
Light enough to carry — 629 grams in size L. Japanese ripstop, Allied Feather down and minimalist detailing mean this big parka will still fit in your pack.
Built for alpine use — Fits over harness and climbing equipment. Two-way zippers for belay access. Oversized hood offers full protection and fits over all types of helmets. Ripstop fabric for durability.

How to use it

Product FAQ

How warm is it, really?

It's really warm. Built for when you're not moving: at the belay, waiting for the lift, standing around waiting for your crew even at altitude. 300 grams of 850 fill power down in a size L means it will keep you comfortable at −20°C / −4°F while layered up and moderately active.

Is 850 fill power a good number?

Yes, it's actually very good. Warmth comes from two numbers: down quality, and how much of it is in the jacket. And to complicate things there's a sweet spot between the two. We use 850 fill power and a lot of it: 300 grams in a size L. When you're comparing parkas, look for both. Most brands leave the fill weight out.

What size do I take?

Your normal size. It's built to go on over everything, including a shell and a harness, so it's roomy by design. If you want a closer fit and you'll wear it over fewer layers, consider sizing down.

Can I ski in it?

Yes you can, but it's not what it's built for. This is the jacket you put on at the top, while waiting, or when the wind turns — and on the coldest days, people do ski in it. But you'll probably run warm, and there's no venting.

Where does the down come from?

From Allied Feather, and we can tell you exactly where. High-grade down, RDS certified and Bluesign® approved, treated with ExpeDRY so it keeps lofting even in damp air. Every batch is source-track verifiable.

Will it pack down small enough to carry?

Yes. 629 grams in a size L, with its own compression bag. It goes in the pack on the way up and comes out at the top. But store it on a hanger, not in the bag — down lofts best when it's had room to rest, and a parka kept that way is as warm in its tenth winter as its first.

When is it the wrong jacket?

A few times. If you're moving fast and taking it on and off all day, the Ultralight Down Hood is lighter and packs smaller. If you want to stay warm while you ski, the Stellar Insulated Shell is built for that. If you want a longer cut and a more urban look, the Free Down Parka. And if you're going somewhere genuinely extreme (8,000 metres, the Arctic), take the Guide Expedition Down Parka.
